About Me

————DISCLAMER: I just moved to Napoli to attend a PhD. The pictures displayed are of my old home in Rome and all the references are about CS experiences in Rome (mainly) or Bologna. Here in Napoli I cannot host but would be interested in exploring and knowing with motorcycle or by feet in freetime :) ——————

ABOUT ME

I suggest you to always read the references first. They are way more significant. Btw:
I think one can say I am a nice, kind and reflexive guy. I am a very intellectually lively person, constantly working on my self-development and critical thinking. I have a wide range of interests: i am eager for knowledge in general, history, economy and politics, psychology, energy and environment...I like movies and tv series (i used to be a huge collector of DVDs), cuisine, music, fishing, sailing, water gardening, I practice japanese Kendo, and I love nature. Definitely too many to keep up :)
My house is really nice and I have a garden. I live alone (with my cat) so sometimes I look for good and enriching company.

I like to make my hosts feel good and comfortable, in my house and in the city. I will not just say: "Hi, here is the couch, good luck, bye" and vanish. I would have no interest in doing that. I will give you one room just for you and try to be helpful, because I want my guests to be happy of their staying, and also I think this is the real thing that makes it worth to host someone: the chance to enhance your knowledge of a interesting person, culture, place or country and have a great time. This happened to me, this is why i am on CS, and this is the spirit in which i would like to continue to host (when i am not a busy host). So if I am not in the conditions to have a positive hosting experience I will refuse the requests...I will almost never accept 1 night requests and will be selective with the person (also because I had 1 bad experience).

I can make a connection between the true spirit of CS and the Ancient Greece concept of “Xenia” (meaning “hospitality”), which was a sacred value and in which the guest, the foreigner, was considered to be an occasion to test yourself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CS imho should not be underestimated: it can give a lot if used well. In my opinion is one of the few REALLY useful social networks and I am happy it is spreading out.
If you have the right attitude, it can give you the chance to make very good encounters (also amazing experiences), to see things through the eyes of locals, to participate to events and gatherings everywhere, and to travel for free and having much more fun (excuse me if that’s a small thing!).
In other words the travelling can be more real (and did i mention cheap?? 😂).

I subscribed to meet new interesting people, to practice english, to explore cultural differences.
Also: to break the routine, to establish new connections (rare, but can happen).

Interests

I have an open and eclectic mind, I am a passionate and curious person, I like to keep myself always busy with something I find interesting.
I can indulge in idealism and perfectionism on some aspects, and the opposite on others (like cleaning dishes...so if you want to volunteer...feel free...;))))))

“...If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same...”
(From “If”, poem by Rudyard Kipling)

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life."
(Henry David Thoreau, “Life in the woods”; also quoted in the movie "Dead poets society")

Just for you to know me a little I will mention some authors for each field:

- Movies: Stanley Kubrick, Peter Weir, Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, Quentin Tarantino, Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, Clint Eastwood.
Italians: Paolo Sorrentino, Federico Fellini, Elio Petri and many others. I am quite a movie-fan, i have seen a lot of italian and non-italian movies, old and recent! I have a 1000+ DVD collection, already mentioned it

- TV Series: House of Cards, True Detective, Gomorra, Prison Break, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Black Sails, Hell on Wheels, Mad Men, O.J. Simpson, Narcos, and others (also some comedy once in a while :))

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I never did sky-diving or bunjee jumping. Still, I think I have done many amazing things in my life (I did hand-gliding once by the way)

Teach, Learn, Share

Italians are complex and highly cultured people. I can help you understand them, talk with you about true italian culture and history, and you can show me yours. (We can speak also about other things ahah)

What I Can Share with Hosts

In my free time we could go visit the city (by feet and motorcycle) and enjoy Rome avoiding too much touristic places. I can share my knowledge as a roman, but basically it will be interesting also for me because i never visit Rome, being a roman. It's a pity (especially if your city is the most beautiful city of the world!!!!!! ;)) but you rarely visit your own city :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States
